Nationals Trade for Cubs Outfielder

The Washington Nationals have traded for Cubs outfielder Scott Hariston to bolster their bench. With the Nationals bench struggling and the need for a powerful hitter against left handed pitching Hairston might be the perfect fit. The trade become official this morning according to Adam Kilgore and James Wagner. Check out their story here: Nationals Trade. It is not official yet who the Nationals had to give up to acquire Hariston. Hopefully this is the insurance the Nats needed to get them going in the second half of the season...

Redskins Salary Cap

It's almost time for the NFL free agency market to start and it's almost time for Dan Snyder to get out the checkbook, right? Well, not so fast. The Redskins still have a 18 million dollar salary cap hit looming over their head and it may make it very difficult for the Redskins to be their usual big spending self during this off-season.

(Image from USA Today)
If the Redskins want to make moves they will have to make enough salary adjustments and may even release a few unexpected players. Players like DeAngello Hall, Fred Davis, and Santana Moss may no longer be Redskins in the near future. With large guarantees in their contacts, these guys are going to have to do some serious restructuring if they want to stay in the burgundy and gold. I think Santana Moss may have the best shot of being released this off season. He is getting older and the Redskins feel like they may have some younger talent that can start to fill his shoes. It would be strange to lose a guy that lead your team in TD receptions a year ago, but it would give Snyder more money to spend and make a free agent splash...

Washington Nationals back in Action..

The Washington Nations are finally back on the field after their heart breaking loss in last years playoff run. The Nationals are back with a little added pressure. This town now expects the Nationals to be at the top of the NL East and making another run at the playoffs. With off season editions of Denard SpanRafael Soriano from the Yankees, and starting pitcher Dan Haren it looks like the Nationals are poised for another outstanding season. Not to mention the edition of a 5th president to the famous presidents race...maybe this will have a good effect on the season? I think the players are in the positions they need to be in and the batting lineup is strong from top to bottom. Rizzo has put together a great group of guys that are poised to make a run at a World Series title!

I still stand behind my thinking that this will be the team to bring a championship back to the DC area before the Redskins.

Running QB's do work in the NFL

All this talk of how the Redskins are going to now change their offense next year and can no longer have RGIII move out of the pocket is a bit over the top and I have evidence to prove it. I know you all watched it last night. Colin Kaepernick rushed for more yards than any other QB in playoff history. Yes, I do agree RGIII needs to be smarter when he starts to run but getting rid of the read option and designed run plays would do nothing but hurt the Redskins success.

I hope Kyle and Mike Shanahan do not completely change the offense that had so much success and brought the Redskins a Divsion Championship. I feel the RGIII will recover and come back stronger then he ever has before. The question now is just when will he exactly be back? By the first game..I don't think so...

But for everyone that said a running QB does not work in the NFL..pay close attention to the 49ers run in the playoffs..

Bright Future for DC Sports

In a time where our baseball team just lost one of the most heart breaking, unbelievable, "I can't believe it" games there is some excitement in DC. Yes, this game will be tough for DC sports fans to get over and will take a while to swallow, but the future looks bright in DC. Not only for the Nationals, but for almost every major sports team in the area.

The Redskins have a quarterback that is playing like he should when the Rookie of the Year, if not the MVP of the NFL right now. The Washington Wizards and their new draft pick Bradley Beal look surprisingly good in their first couple pre-season games. The Washington Capitals are in a lock out but they will continue to be a contender for years to come. And finally the Nationals will be back to playing baseball in October next year.

The Nationals loss may be a turning point for not only the Nationals, but the rest of the area teams to begin to make a statement. I think the Nationals are the closest to bringing home a Championship to the area, but are followed closer than you think by the Redskins. After all they can take hold of first place in the NFC East if they win this weekend against the Giants.

Hold on DMV sports Fans you will have quite the ride coming up!

Washington Nationals NL East CHAMPS!

DC has finally done it! There is finally a playoff feeling in the air. This town finally has a team in a big time sport that they can call the champs! The Washington Nationals won the NL East last night after an Atlanta Braves loss. The people of this area deserve to finally get a chance to feel what it is like to be in a playoff series and how intense it really is.

This team has come a far way from first being the Expos, then owned by the Major Leagues, and now they are Champions. It feels great for guys like Ryan Zimmerman who have been there every step of the way through both the ups and downs. You can tell this team is special and all of these guys have contributed to this unbelievable season from Stephen Strasburg to Steve Lombardozzi. I don't think it stops here either. Its one celebration down and three more to go.

So, start preparing yourself DMV Sports Fans we haven't experienced this in a long time. Its going to be intense starting this weekend when the Nationals hit the field for PLAYOFF baseball in October. Your Natitude should be on an all time high!
